The Teachers is responsible for providing a developmentally appropriate educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth.
The Teacher will plan activities, develop appropriate lesson plans for the adolescents, assess student progress and will work with the families to ensure compliance with the Performance Standards and Mississippi Licensing regulations in all divisions of the program.
This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Oceans Healthcare outcomes.
All duties to be done in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans Mission, policies and procedures and Performance Improvement Standards.
Essential Functions:
Provide academic instruction and classroom supervision to Day School Students
Provide individualized education according to the student’s IEP
Maintain specific records of each student’s behavior, academics, and progress
Communicate with referring school districts and act as a liaison between the school and local districts
Make academic and behavioral recommendations to Student Review Team and assist with transition of students
Keep all State Department of Education paperwork current
Communicate with the staff and the Director of Education to ensure the program is run effectively and efficiently
Work with the Director of Education to ensure quality instruction
Act as assistant to the Director with regard to budget, policies, and quality management
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
A minimum of a B.
S.
Degree In Special Education or related field from an accredited college or university.
A minimum of Class “A” Mississippi Teacher License appropriate to students served.
Typically this means Emotionally Disabled, ADHD, Mild/Moderate Disability, Autism, or Other Health Impairment.
Experience as a Special Education Teacher in an accredited school is preferred.
Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
